Hello Camprs 👋
Have you ever engaged your hyperdrive?
Just as every city commuter stuck in traffic to Luke Skywalker dodging lasers, we all had moments where we wished we sped things up and cleared out obstacles. As we are launching our 1.0 of the Rangr platform, we felt every other small obstacle would throw a truck-sized obstacle when we were previously speeding down the highway. Our team adopted the principle of Batching to optimize our chaos and workflow.
The Lesson of the Week 👏
Batching
On our first basecamp newsletter, we introduced the concept of timeboxing; a technique focused on limiting our time so that we can get more done in less time. As I used the timeboxing technique, I realized I would have weird transitions such as going from writing newsletters to editing podcasts every week. This transition and time commitment was at best function but not enjoyable. I discovered batching as a supplemental technique to improve the enjoyment of the time. So instead of editing a single podcast a week, I could batch three episodes of editing together so I can focus on other important daily tasks throughout the week.
The Rough Technique
Create a List.
As a very visual person, I need to see my tasks on paper to have a holistic understanding of all the things I have to do. By creating a list, you are gathering pieces to be organized into something a bit more optimized but more importantly enjoyable.
Bring similar tasks together
I bring tasks that require certain skills and physical setups together such as when I edit the Rangr Outpost podcast together. This usually requires a bunch of electronics, desk sets, and silence. The most important part of the podcast is the headspace of creativity and firing neurons that brings the story together. This gives us time to really focus and have the most exponential output of creativity.
Timebox the batch of tasks
All of these sessions of creative, social, physical tasks now have to live within the confines of a calendar. This allows you to first see if you can do the task in the required hours and audit yourself on how to get the most out of the limited time.
Inspirations of the Week 🔥
Book Chapter Summary - Atomic Habits reviewed by Belinda
There are three levels of change: outcome change, process change, and identity change.
Outcomes are about what you get. Processes are about what you do. Identity is about what you believe
The most effective way to change your habits is to focus not on what you want to achieve, but on who you wish to become. Your identity emerges out of your habits.
Every action is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.
Becoming the best version of yourself requires you to continuously edit your beliefs, and to upgrade and expand your identity.
The real reason habits matter is not because they can get you better results (although they can do that), but because they can change your beliefs about yourself.
Inspirational video - Conan at Oxford enjoyed by Richard
Conan O'Brien is one of my favorite people ever because of how he balances what he wants to do in the world of comedy as well as how he treats and communicates with people.
He has a segment in the video, where he is asked why he does videos with his interns, and he was told by Johnny Carson how if you are in the business of show business you will use anything and everything you have. This allowed him to discover new ways to entertain and create creative content.
